- Excellent 'minimal grammar' approach to teaching
- Bitesize lessons easy to finish in 5 - 10 minutes
- Well suited and targeted to older students of Spanish
- Dated interface and corny marketing
- Basic package is overpriced
Created in 2010 by former English teacher Marcus Santamaria, the Synergy Spanish platform claims to teach students Spanish between 30 and 96 years of age.
Before you sign up for one of their Spanish courses, take a look at this review to find out more about Synergy Spanish.
Synergy Spanish features
What you get with Synergy Spanish are 68 online audio lessons and video lessons that are ideal for speaking and listening from the start.
You’ll also be able to use the iPhone and Android app with the Synergy light package. Choosing the popular synergy video subscription grants you access to email coaching features too.
The lessons last between 5 and 10 minutes.
Create 88,000 Spanish phrases from 138 words
The Synergy Spanish app works by teaching specific words from which you can build more complex sentences.
This is one thing that would appeal to absolute beginners of the Spanish language. What I found as an advanced student is that Synergy Spanish works best when backed up with other Spanish resources.
However, it teaches students how to construct sentences and helps them learn quickly.
Remember words using special techniques
The strategy used by Synergy Spanish is a clever one.
Students can recall words with ease by using techniques that jog their memory. If you’re a student struggling to remember new vocabulary, you will find the mnemonics helpful, as I did.
It’s great for helping you understand spoken Spanish and pick up on new words as well.
Revisit words learned in the previous lesson
What I found useful about Synergy Spanish is how it lets you revisit words you have studied in the previous lesson.
There’s no need to go back to your notebook, as the vocabulary reappears when you move to the next lesson.
When you add this perk to the special techniques for remembering words, it’s clear that Synergy Spanish can help build your vocabulary.
Overpriced and not suited to students who learn best in the classroom
The price is the main problem with Synergy Spanish. It is quite expensive compared to some of its competitors.
Though it aims to teach students from 30 to 96, every student has their way of learning.
If you’re a Spanish student who learns best in the classroom with grammatical rules, Synergy Spanish might not be for you.
For a quality alternative to Synergy Spanish, I recommend taking a look at Rocket Spanish or Pimsleur.

I bought Synergy Spanish as my first on line home c ourse . I have have done so many different studyies since then. I have to say the course is an excellent builder for any prpospective spanish speaker. yes, the marlketing is a bit surupy - but aren’ they all? i learnt all my basics from this course. All video related courses are very monototous and hard going when presented by screen after screen of sentences . it can uninspring. I’m doing ‘Spanish with Paul’ at present, and that’s no different. at all. The workbook & exercises with ‘SS’ are excellent . I got my course half price - it was an absolute bargain. Don’t knock ‘SS’ compared to a lot of others, it’s genuine and very good and competive. I’m really pleased I did the course and I for one would say go for it - it’s simple but very effective - as part of your learning curve.
