Summary

A truly comprehensive and vast Chinese language lesson library with outstanding video quality and likeable teachers/hosts. The main issue I have with ChinesePod is its high monthly cost for premium access.

depth
Depth This is 'content' richness. How comprehensive is ChinesePod and does it take you far in terms of levels, or is it more suited to low level/tourist learners?
uniqueness
Uniqueness Is ChinesePod innovative or is it just an imitation? Does it have a unique selling proposition (USP) that makes it stand out among competitors?
quality
Quality Overall product quality indicator that covers everything from video/dialogue clarity, authenticity, explanations, and effectiveness.
cost
Cost Is ChinesePod acceptably priced and how does its pricing compare to market competition?

I really enjoyed my time testing out ChinesePod.

The ChinesePod team focuses on free-form learning and created the platform in line with this concept. What this means is that with ChinesePod you’ll learn ideas, topics and language elements that you find interesting.

It seems intriguing, but does this concept work? Read on for my review.

Features of ChinesePod

With ChinesePod, there is a selection of courses arranged into different categories.

These categories are based on different skill levels. These levels are arranged from newbie to advanced.

You’ll find a section on pronouncing words in Chinese called ‘Say It Right’, which is handy for developing your understanding of the Chinese accent.

There are also transcripts to make use of, which will help you hone your knowledge of both traditional and simplified Chinese.

Vocabulary flashcards

You’ll notice there’s an option to generate and keep flashcards, which makes it simpler to learn online.

Using these flashcards straight from ChinesePod is possible, or you can use them with Pleco or CSV.

English-Chinese dictionary

Every great language platform should feature a dictionary for ease of learning — ChinesePod proves that it’s up there with the best platforms with its English-Chinese dictionary.

You’ll get sample sentences to help you understand each word you look up.

The sentences will give you context and examples of where the word in question might be used.

Grammar option

The grammar section doesn’t just stop with an explanation of the grammar.

What I like about ChinesePod’s grammar is that there are examples of the grammar shown in sentences ‘built in’ to the grammar option.

Study what interests you

But what I found the most refreshing about the ChinesePod platform is that you study what subjects you want to study — and you can study them at your own pace.

There are more than 4,000 lessons available on ChinesePod.

This vast selection means you can study exactly what you need to know at the time.

Learn about Chinese culture

If what interests you is Chinese culture, this is another bonus of ChinesePod.

It features a huge range of podcasts that are focused on different themes related to Chinese ways of life.

You might want to know more about Chinese food.

If so, why not take a look at their Menu Stealer Channel?

If you’re interested in movies and how they relate to Chinese culture, you should check out their Movie Madness Channel.

ChinesePod has all the ingredients of a top Mandarin resource.

Everything is well-presented and well-designed. Whether you learn best with visual aids or by listening, you’ll find it on the ChinesePod platform.

Take a look at what they offer for more information.

If you’re looking for an alternative to ChinesePod, the best I’ve seen are Mandarin Blueprint and Rocket Chinese.
